Whenever I move to a different city one of the things that I miss the most are “my places”, you know, the kind of places you always go and just feel like home. Well, I have the feeling that La Despensa may be one of those places for me. Yummy empanadas, good coffee, nice music and the friendliest staff ever. What more could one ask for?
This is a latino place, just like his owner, Rodrigo, who together with his wife, Anne, has set up this warm oasis in the city. If you were looking for empanadas in Friedrichshain, you just found your place. They offer different kinds of these yummy things, with both veggie and meat options. You can order them individually but you can also order a mixed basket with 5 different empanadas for 11 ( 22 if you add a nice bottle of wine to the pack). And if you are craving comfort food, you should also check their lovely daily specials or their super interesting Saturday’s brunch. Besides they also host pop up events often, just like their Taco Tuesdays.
Nice coffee and yummy empanadas in Friedrichshain
And you really should not miss their breakfast special, ham & cheese sandwich, a boiled egg and a cup of coffee, probably the best hangover cure ever. And, talking about drinks, both their coffee and mate tea are definitely worth trying. They make theis own mate and have cuban beans provided and roasted by Passenger coffee. And, in case you are feeling cheeky, they have a really nice cocktail selection.
The place is roomy and cosy, divided in three different areas, it’s perfect for suiting everyone’s needs. Wether you are working on your computer by your self or want to have a nice meal with friends, you’ll probably find your spot in La Despensa.
